Thomas Cothran is an attorney who practices law in Lexington, KY and the surrounding Bluegrass area. Thomas practices elder law, special needs law, and estate planning.

I was born and raised in Central Kentucky. I went to the University of Kentucky for my undergraduate degree and liked it so much I stayed for law school.
My goal as a lawyer is to help people who face disabilities and illnesses. I focus my energy mostly on the areas of elder law and special needs law. I help people draft wills, create trusts, execute powers of attorney, and apply for public benefits.
I also like to work with children. I help parents through the adoption process, and I frequently represent children as a Guardian ad Litem.
My practice is in Lexington, Kentucky, where I live with my wife and son.
Before starting my own practice in Lexington, I worked as the staff attorney for the Fayette County Circuit Courts. I previously worked as a legislative analyst with the Legislative Research Commission, the staff arm of the General Assembly .
When I attended the University of Kentucky College of Law I focused my coursework on estate planning, and focused on ways to help seniors and the disabled. I graduated in the top 15% of my law class. I have served on the editorial board of the Kentucky Law Journal, and I received the “Best Writing in the Kentucky Law Journal Award.”
